A New Adventure with Classroom Decorations

For the past few weeks now, I have been sneaking around looking at all of the #Made4Math posts going around the web {orgnaized and kept sane by @druinok} just being a lurker and filing a lot of ideas back in this brain of mine. Well, and pinning some as well! 🙂 Last week I stepped out of the box a bit and actually commented on a few that I really enjoyed. WOAH! Well, I decided since I had already been working on some stuff for my classroom, I was going to post this week for sure.

I’ve moved into a new classroom this year to top off the move to a new grade. I’m so happy to be moving into the BRAND NEW wing of our school for 7th grade and I have the best classroom {right next to the work room and bathroom}.

So with a brand new classroom, comes some brand new decorations. Not because I needed them but because I wanted a change. I did stay with the same colors of Teal, Brown, Black, Kraft and some Lime Green because I still love them!

First up, I made some labels for the side white board that I use for the weekly Agenda. I section it off for my 3 (possibly 4) levels of classes {7th Grade Math, Resource Math and Newspaper- don’t know on the Resource Math yet if we will have a split level class or a class for each grade level} across the horizontal axis at the top. I use the vertical axis on the left for the labels that I made here. These were simply made with my Silhouette Cameo and the label file was found in the Silhouette Online Store. I made the words with fonts on my computer.

Next up, it was time to work on my date that I always put on the board. Ever since I have been at this school, I have written the date each and every day. Well, not only does that use up a lot of Dry Erase Marker over the course of the year, but it’s also BORING!

First up, I made these little file folders with my Silhouette Cameo and then made the words for each day of the week with a shadow behind. I had to do a bit of doodling around the edge and may add a bit more just to throw off the wonky-ness of it all.

Next up it was time to make the months. Since we are only in school August-June, I could have cheated and saved a month but it just didn’t feel right so I made them all. I love that half of them are one version of the polka dots and the other half are the other version.

Next in line, it was time to make the dates for the entire month. Rarely do I love a paper so much to buy multiples of it and when I realized I needed 4 pages for the back piece of the numbers, I decided to just make a pattern of 4 different papers throughout the course of the month. The only person that would know is who is changing it and maybe that super observant student.

And onto the school years. I only created 2012 and 2013 for right now. Since I saved all of the files, it will be easy for me to go back and create subsequent years in the future.

Now, I’m sure you want to see it all together because I sure did! I’m still toying with the idea of after I laminate them to add magnets to the back of everything or to just use the magnets I have in the classroom to stick them up each day.

All of these papers just came from my scrapbooking stash and I loved being able to use up a total of 18 sheets in the entire project. I’ve started a few other creations for my classroom as well but they aren’t done yet so they will have to wait for another day.

Off to go check out all the other great #made4math entries this week! 🙂 Keep on inspiring!

Oh, and if you are interested in learning more about the Silhouette Cameo, feel free to check out their blog. I purchased mine through Amazon and got a great deal. I predominately use it for my scrapbooking but it’s great for all kinds of school related things as well.
